Year 2010 Students

Hello.

The Umoja Centre in Arusha, Tanzania fills a gap in the education system for young adults who have had minimal or no schooling but aspire to something more.

All of our students come from the most disadvantaged backgrounds and are unable to pay for education. Some are HIV/AIDS orphans, others come from a violent background and all live in extreme poverty on less than US$1 a day. With few options for employment and without funds to continue their education they are left in a perpetual cycle of poverty.

The Umoja Centre is both a school and a safe haven that empowers young people to create change in their own lives and the wider community.

We give14-26 year olds the opportunity to complete basic or vocational education and find employment or to start their own business. At the same time we encourage independent and creative thinking.

We partner with other organisations to assist students in taking the next steps in whichever direction they choose.

We urgently need your help to sponsor our students. Sponsorship is a brilliant way to give a charitable donation and know that it is making a real difference – the money goes directly to the centre’s running costs.
